Gerardo Ruiz Wins Copa Vidanta Golf Tournament

Gerardo Ruiz was crowned champion of the Copa Vidanta, a tournament that marked the end of the Mexican professional golf tour in its 2018 season.

The Mexican golfer, accompanied by his family, achieved his first victory on the circuit and with a birdie putt, he won the one million pesos prize after dominating in the first two phases and handling the pressure on Sunday.

Brazilian golfer Alexandre Rocha put up a fight, however, he had to settle for second place, while a strong finish from Carlos Ortiz allowed him to secure the third spot.

For three days, Nuevo Vallarta witnessed the young blood of Mexican golf, and as a prize, there was a three million pesos purse, with one million guaranteed for the winner. The highest amount ever awarded in the region.

By the way, with this victory, Ruiz reached the top of the Money List of the Greg Norman Academy, avenging his second place finish in Acapulco.

"I also had the sting from Acapulco where I finished second, so this victory comes at a good moment," he said.

Ruiz talked about the keys to his victory in the crucial stage of the Mexican professional golf circuit.

"The pieces came together, it was one of the best weeks with my putter, that helped me stay calm because I knew that if I had a chance with my putter, I would be able to sink it," he stated.

"WE SAW THE BEST GOLF POSSIBLE THIS YEAR": BEJOS

The Commissioner of the Mexican Professional Golf Tour, José Miguel Bejos, expressed his satisfaction after the conclusion of the Copa Vidanta in Nuevo Vallarta, with Gerardo Ruiz as the winner.

"It was a very special stage because it was the final of the 2017-2018 season of the Mexican golf tour. That makes it doubly special," he said.

According to José Miguel, the level of play throughout the season on the tour has been of the highest quality and he hopes it can be maintained in the coming years.

"25 of the best golfers from across the country during 10 stages were the qualifiers. We saw the best golf possible throughout the year," he concluded.
