Argentina in Russia 2018: Papu Gómez apologized after injuring Lucas Biglia [VIDEO]

Domingo 13 de Mayo del 2018

The Atalanta attacker defended himself after the accusations for the blow to Biglia.

Lucas Biglia, midfielder of the Argentina National Team for Russia 2018, returned to play on Sunday for AC Milan after three weeks off the field due to a back injury, but had to be replaced after his compatriot, Alejandro "Papu" Gomez, from Atalanta, hit him in the same area.

Biglia suffered an injury on April 22. On Sunday, he jumped to reach a ball near his team's area at 36 minutes into the first half and Gomez kneed him in the back, a play very similar to the one that caused his first injury.

After the game, "Papu" talked to La Nación de Argentina and explained that he never intended to hit his teammate, especially since he didn't even know it was Biglia.

"I jumped with my knee and I hit Lucas. I don't go around the field looking at who I have in front of me. This is football, it was just a foul. Unfortunately, it happened to Biglia, who was facing away. I am very sorry about the situation. I feel sorry for Lucas because I never had any intention to harm him. Who could assume that?" explained the Atalanta player.

The game on Sunday was important to find out if Biglia would be able to play in the World Cup with the Argentine national team. Now, the midfielder will undergo exams on Monday, the same day that Jorge Sampaoli, coach of the "albiceleste," will announce the preliminary World Cup roster.
