The Pope will receive the Argentinean National Team
Pope Francis will receive the Argentinean National Team on Wednesday, when the traditional general audience takes place in St. Peter's Square at the Vatican, before they travel to Russia to participate in the World Cup.
The director of the Vatican press office, Greg Burke, confirmed that the meeting is planned, but the details of how and when it will take place still need to be confirmed.
It was Pope Francis himself who said in an interview with Canal 13 that the Albiceleste would visit the Vatican before the 2018 World Cup in Russia.
The World Cup will take place from June 14 to July 15, and Argentina has a friendly match on June 8 in Haiti. Therefore, the meeting with the Pope could take place shortly after, as a stopover before reaching the host country of the competition.
The Argentinean Pope and avid football fan previously received the Argentinean National Team in August 2013 before a friendly match against Italy in Rome.
