The Peruvian National Team completed the feat of the Qualifiers and qualified for a World Cup after 36 years of absence. Russia 2018 will be the fifth World Cup that the 'blanquirroja' will play in its history where it will try to compete to make a name for itself internationally, as Ricardo Gareca, the coach, said on RPP Noticias. What was Peru's first and last victory in the World Cup?

The first one

It was in Mexico 1970, on June 2 in the opening match of Group 4 against Bulgaria. The match ended 3-2 in favor of the Bicolor at the Jalisco Stadium in Guadalajara in a historic comeback by the team led by the Brazilian Walter 'Didi' Pereira, after being 2-0 down with goals from Dinko Dermendzhiev and Hristo Bonev. Alberto Gallado, Héctor Chumpitaz, and Teófilo Cubillas secured the victory for the Peruvian National Team.

The last one

It was in Argentina 1978, on June 11 in the closing of Group 4 against Iran. The match ended with a 4-1 victory over Iran at the Cordoba Olympic Stadium, which meant the group leadership and the pass to the second round where they were eliminated. The goals were scored by José Velasquez and a hat-trick by Teófilo Cubillas. Hassan Rowshan scored for Iran.
