The Panama national team qualified for their first World Cup by defeating Costa Rica 2-1 on Tuesday in the tenth and final round of the Concacaf Hexagonal.
A goal by Román Torres in the 88th minute caused joy to erupt in the Rommel Fernández stadium and on the streets of the Panamanian city.
The team, led by Colombian coach Hernán Darío Gómez, fell behind in the 33rd minute with a goal by Johan Venegas. However, Gabriel Torres brought hope back with the equalizer in the 56th minute, and then Román Torres scored the decisive goal, securing Panama's spot in the 2018 World Cup in Russia.
