Another transfer quarterback target for South Carolina has emerged as the Gamecocks remain busy in the portal in the new year.
Zeon Chriss (6-2, 209) of Baton Rouge, La., played this season as a redshirt freshman at Louisiana. He passed for 1,222 yards and 11 touchdowns, completing 67 percent of his throws, and rushed for 492 yards and six touchdowns. Chris Hummer of 24/7 Sports reported Chriss plans to visit USC and UCF, and he’s also looking at TCU. Transfers can make visits this week.
• James Madison transfer receiver Elijah Sarratt announced an offer from USC. This season, he had 82 catches for 1,191 yards and eight touchdowns. He also picked up offers from Purdue, Kansas State, Indiana and Utah. He’s a native of Stafford, Va., and started his career at Saint Francis.
• Miami of Ohio transfer wide receiver Gage Larvadain told On3Sports he’s scheduled visits to Tulane and South Carolina. He also picked up an offer from Cal. He’s a native of Donaldsonville, La., who played one season for the RedHawks after transferring from Southeastern Louisiana. This season, he caught 42 passes for 679 yards and six touchdowns, including one touchdown catch of 99 yards. He averaged over 16 yards per catch.
• USC is showing interest in Troy transfer receiver Jabre Barber (5-10, 175) from Dothan, Ala. This season, he had 75 catches for 999 yards and five touchdowns. Matt Zenitz of 247Sports reported that Barber will visit USC, Kansas State, Texas A&M and Florida State.
• Louisville receiver Ahmari Huggins, a Dillon native, is transferring, and he picked up an offer from USC. He also landed offers from Tulane, Minnesota and UCF. Huggins caught 80 passes for 1,181 yards and 10 touchdowns in his career with the Cardinals.
• USC is in the top eight with Mississippi State transfer tackle Percy Lewis (6-8, 345). He played two seasons at Mississippi Gulf Coast JC and two seasons at Mississippi State. He started eight games this season. The others in his top eight are Auburn, Cal, Memphis, Ole Miss, Arkansas, Florida State and Georgia.
On the trail
• Princeton transfer OT Jalen Travis, who has been offered by USC, was offered by Northwestern ... Former USC WR Rico Powers is transferring from Jacksonville State ... Former USC QB Colten Gauthier was offered by Gardner-Webb.
• Former USC RB Rashad Amos is in the portal for a second time after a season at Miami of Ohio. He has reported an offer from North Carolina ... Former Clemson WR Frank Ladson is transferring from Miami to Massachusetts. He played in five games this season and did not have a catch. Last year for the Hurricanes, he had 27 catches for 298 yards and one touchdown.
• Former Gray Collegiate and George State RB KZ Adams is transferring to S.C. State. In 10 games with the Panthers, Adams rushed for 66 yards and had one pass reception ... Former Myrtle Beach QB Ryan Burger is transferring from Appalachian State.
• Newberry WR Andre Banks (6-0, 205) is transferring to The Citadel. He's a Summerville product. At Newberry, he had 55 catches for 782 yards and three touchdowns in 28 games.
• USC RB target Daniel Hill of Meridian, Miss., will announce his decision on Jan. 6 during the All-American Game. His final career high school stats were recently posted; he finished with 5,111 rushing yards with 65 touchdowns, and 1,600 receiving yards with 15 touchdowns. He is also considering Alabama, Tennessee and Mississippi State.
• SAF Jordan Young (6-0, 184) of Monroe, N.C., included Clemson and USC in his top 13. The rest are Alabama, Tennessee, Southern Cal, Florida State, North Carolina, LSU, Texas, Penn State, Miami, Notre Dame and N.C. State. During this season, Young visited Clemson, Tennessee and N.C. State. He also visited Tennessee last July.
• USC is in the top 10 with TE Marshall Pritchett, formerly of Charleston and now of Rabun Gap, Ga. The others are Wisconsin, Virginia Tech, North Carolina, Miami, Tennessee, Michigan, Georgia Tech, Florida State and Auburn ... USC target LB Mantrez Walker of Buford, Ga., has set an unofficial visit to LSU for Jan. 20. South Carolina is in his top 12.
Gamecocks offer DE
Sumter DE Anthony Addison (6-3, 215) had been a regular visitor to USC for games when he arrived at Williams-Brice Stadium Nov. 25 for the Clemson game. Addison had been drawing serious recruiting attention from Gamecock defensive ends coach Sterling Lucas, and this visit turned out to be extra special for him.
Addison left Williams-Brice that night with an offer from the Gamecocks.
“I’ve been to South Carolina a bunch of times, but this time I was really going up there for the game because South Carolina and Clemson I grew up watching,” Addison said. “I really wasn’t expecting the offer. All the other times, I was kind of hoping that they would, but it never really happened.
"This time, I came up there for the game and he (Lucas) came to the recruiting lounge, my position coach, he offered me in person. It was unbelievable. I’m blessed that I received it, but I didn’t expect to get it.”
Addison had a monster junior season with 96 tackles, 25 tackles for loss and six sacks. His ability to get to the quarterback and disrupt action in the backfield is what sold the Gamecocks on him.
“They are recruiting me to play outside linebacker, so I guess the sideline-to-sideline speed, my ability to make tackles, and I had like 25 tackles for loss, so I guess I fit in their scheme” Addison said. “I know I’m a hard worker myself, so I know I’ll have to make a way to fit into this scheme even if I don’t fit in it now.”
Addison believes his ability to rush the quarterback is needed on the Gamecock defense, knowing they had just 21 sacks this season.
“That’s one of the things that I want to be able to bring to the table if I choose to go to South Carolina,” Addison said. “Making tackles, three and outs, three downs and a stop, and making plays on defense for them to be able to win more games than they did.”
Addison has also received offers from Tennessee, Coastal Carolina, Cincinnati, Liberty, South Florida, Charlotte, Appalachian State, Georgia State, Old Dominion and Jacksonville State. Along with stops at USC, he has also visited Tennessee, Cincinnati, Coastal Carolina, Appalachian State, Charlotte and Virginia.
“I don’t plan on committing early, but I do like South Carolina while keeping my options open,” he said. “I like them. They are the first SEC school to offer me, so I’m always going to consider them when it’s time for me to make my decision on college next year.”
