Ecuador will host the Pan American Club and National Artistic Skating Championship, to be held for the first time in Guayaquil in August, organized by the Ecuadorian Federation of this sport, chaired by Marisol Castro.

According to the national organization, 42 athletes, aged between 8 and 17, from Azuay, Guayas, and Pichincha, participated in a training camp with the aim of preparing for the tournament.

"We taught them everything involved in high-performance training. They received talks on nutrition and psychology workshops, and they underwent anthropometric measurements, physical tests, and intense physical training," said DT Diana Portalanza.

The physical preparation was managed by coach Juan David González. "The main function was to ensure that the athletes are aware that they should train their physical abilities in the same way, and to carry out training sessions that last about an hour and 15 minutes every day, in order to achieve physical efficiency," González said.

On the other hand, physiotherapist and former karateka Priscila Lazo highlighted the importance of proper warm-up to prevent injuries. "Injury prevention is crucial because it allows them to perform much better, especially if they are aware of their body movements and the limits of their capabilities," commented Lazo.

Ecuador has made progress in artistic skating and demonstrated it in Lima 2019, where they won their first medal at the Pan American Games with Eduarda Fuentes, who won a bronze medal. (D)
