Sanction Imposed on the National Federation of Surfing (Fenta)

The National Federation of Surfing (Fenta) has been sanctioned by the Superior Council of Sports Justice and Honours (CSJDHD), as it did not update its statutes, a requirement demanded by the country's Sports Law.

The president of Fenta, Alberto Figari, stated that the punishment from CSJDHD was due to an administrative error that was beyond their control.

"We have called for five assemblies, three of which were exclusively made to modify the statutes, but none of them reached the required quorum of three-fifths of eligible clubs," said the highest authority of the Federation to América Deportes.

But there is an important detail that Figari emphasizes. The head of CSJDHD, José Mario Escudero, is a familiar figure. "The gentleman who is the president of the Superior Council of Sports Justice was a candidate for the presidency of the Federation in 2016 and lost the election," he indicated, highlighting that "since 2017 there have been a lot of attacks from people close to that candidate list."

In response to this sanction, the main Peruvian surfers, led by Sofia Mulanovich, sent a letter to CSJDHD to arrange a meeting and avoid the punishment, which could jeopardize Peru's participation in Tokyo 2020. Surfers Daniella Rosas and Lucca Mesinas have already secured a spot in the event after winning gold medals at the Lima 2019 Pan American Games.

The National Federation of Surfing appealed the imposed sanction and a second instance hearing will take place this Saturday.
