The Gareca speech is the same
The lack of continuity is the main factor he uses to explain the non-calling of some players. However, the speech, although the same for everyone, is different for the two groups that have formed in the subconscious: those from before and those from now.
When we talk about those from before
For example, Carlos Zambrano, Jefferson Farfán, André Carillo, Luis Advíncula, among other players who play abroad. Those from now, obviously, are those who were called up by Gareca for the Copa America Centenario onwards.
Why do we say it is different for both sides?
An example. Gareca ensures that Farfán is not called up because he does not have continuity in his team; however, Benavente and Tapia play the majority of minutes in their teams.
So, the continuity issue is contradictory.
Or, perhaps, it is not contradictory, but intentional.
The last case is Alberto Rodríguez's. Without a team, without playing, and just signed by Melgar, he was called up to face Argentina and Chile. Why Mudo and not Zambrano, for example, if the latter has started playing for Rubin Kazan?
The only interpretation we have is the following:
While Gareca's message is one, the reception of it is different for one side and the other. While continuity is not an attenuating factor for the "new" players, it is an excuse for those from before. And all this has to do with commitment.
Gareca has changed.
He made a brave decision, even knowing that his own continuity could be in danger. He opted for a new group of players and left aside those who helped him achieve a third place in the Copa America Chile. From that team, they are no longer there: Vargas, Ascues, Zambrano, Advíncula, Ballón, Farfán, and Pizarro.
Commitment has become vital to be in the National Team.
And it is measured by details. For example: the last game Zambrano played with Peru was against Venezuela (2-2 draw in Lima). He was shown a yellow card and, already known, it was known that with a warning he could not play against Uruguay in Montevideo. Why did the defender not go home, but instead traveled with the group to show his support? Why didn't he concentrate with the team? Details are important. A pat on the back from a teammate is valued by Gareca.
