The Silkeborg IF side defender from Denmark talked about his first weeks with the Peruvian National Team, during Matchday 3 and 4 of the 2026 World Cup qualifiers.

After the falls against Chile and Argentina, for matchdays 3 and 4 of the 2026 World Cup Qualifiers, one of the main concerns around the Peruvian National Team was our position in the table: we only have one point and we are in the penultimate place. However, certain decisions - and statements - by Juan Reynoso were also under scrutiny. And one of them was related to Oliver Sonne, who did not debut with the team's shirt. His procedures - to obtain the DNI (National Identity Document) - were expedited and he was in a press conference prior to the clash with the Albiceleste. Despite this, he did not appear on the lineup at the Estadio Nacional.

A few days have passed since the defeat against Lionel Messi's team, and the right back has already joined his team - Silkeborg IF. He even played the full 90 minutes in the victory over Hvidovre (2-1), in the Danish Superliga. After that, Sonne made some statements to Bold, where he not only talked about his first days with the national team, but also mentioned what Reynoso told him.

"It was part of the plan. I spoke to the national coach before going there and it was important for me to feel and see everything because it was a cultural change," he said. That was not the only thing he mentioned: "I have spoken to the national coach and he believes that everything has gone well in the team and in training, but he has not given a clear indication yet."

He also thanked the signs of affection from the Peruvian fans. "I am very happy to have gone there, because it was incredibly great. The reception I had was absolutely crazy." He also added that "although there were some Peruvians who believed that I should go and be the great player. I am very happy to have gone."

What are Peru's next matches?

After their last defeat by 0-2 against Argentina, the Peruvian National Team will play again next month when they visit Bolivia for matchday 5 of the 2026 Qualifiers. Subsequently, completing the last double fixture of 2023 - the South American Qualifiers will not be played again until September 2024, after that year's Copa America - the 'Blanquirroja' will host Venezuela for matchday 6. This match is scheduled for Tuesday, November 21st at 9:00 p.m. (in Peruvian time and one hour later in Venezuelan territory), it will take place at the National Stadium and will also be broadcast in our country by the aforementioned channels.
