The first Peruvian racket defeats the Hungarian tennis player after a great effort and advances to the Round of 16 of the ATP 250 in Antwerp, Belgium
After his participation in the ATP 250 in Astana and the ATP 1000 in Shanghai, Juan Pablo Varillas took on a new challenge, this time in Belgian territory. The Peruvian tennis player made his debut with a victory in the ATP 250 in Antwerp against Fabian Marozsan (#65).
The start of the match was very uphill. 'Juanpi' had to recover from 6 set points against him; in fact, he was 5-2 down in the first set; however, he showed the grit that characterizes him to finally win the first set 7-6.
In the second set, the Peruvian's top racket game came back again against the Hungarian tennis player, who came with a boost of confidence to this match after reaching the quarterfinals in Shanghai where he defeated players like Alex de Minaur and Casper Ruud.
Varillas was 4-2 down in the second set, but he turned the tables and won 6-4. In this way, Juan Pablo triumphs on hard court and prepares for the Round of 16, where he will face Russian Alexander Shevchenko, number 84 in the ATP Ranking.
