TAS issued a resounding ruling in favor of the team of League 1 2023.

The Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) issued a decision in favor of Sport Boys dismissing the appeal made by Ayacucho FC regarding a deduction of points in the overall standings for 2022.

In early 2023, Ayacucho FC made an important claim in front of the Court of Arbitration for Sport (TAS). The club requested its return to the Liga 1 replacing Sport Boys -who also faced relegation to the Second Division in the final weeks of the 2022 season- and finally, they were able to learn the response from the entity.

"The appeal filed by Ayacucho Fútbol Club is rejected. The Resolution 027-TL-FPF-2022, dated December 26, 2022, issued by the Licensing Tribunal of the Peruvian Football Federation is confirmed", read the first part of the official document.

"The arbitration costs, which will be communicated soon by the TAS Secretariat to the parties, must be entirely assumed by Ayacucho FC. Order each party to bear its own legal fees and other expenses incurred in this proceedings", they added.

TAS ruled in favor of Sport Boys after Ayacucho FC's request.

Will Sport Boys lose points in the standings?

According to LÍBERO sources, it could be known that Sport Boys will not lose points in the standings, as the ruling was in favor of the 'Misilera' in this first case. However, they are awaiting the second request made by Ayacucho FC and San Martín.

Sport Boys speaks out after TAS ruling

After learning TAS' determination, the club issued a statement through official channels of the institution.

"Club Sport Boys Association informs its fans, media outlets, and the general public that, after Ayacucho FC's claim before the Court of Arbitration for Sport (TAS) seeking the removal of our club from the Exceptional Sports Regime, it has been rejected by the international body", the institution stated.

"We are awaiting the ruling of TAS on case 2023/A/9534, but we have confidence that it will be positive again due to the strong arguments presented by our Club's Legal Department and external lawyers. We hope that the Exceptional Sports Tribunal will soon pronounce in accordance with the law", they concluded.

Next Sport Boys match

Sport Boys will face Cusco FC at the Miguel Grau stadium in Callao for the 17th round of the Clausura 2023 Tournament. The match will take place on Tuesday, October 3rd.
