In Alianza Lima, they were clear that it was an obligation to get three points in Trujillo if they wanted to maintain their chances of winning the Clausura Tournament of Liga 1 Betsson. And considering that they rested on matchday 14 of the tournament, Uruguayan strategist Mauricio Larriera prepared his tactics and strategies in detail for the clash against Carlos A. Mannucci. And although the task was not easy -they suffered with Josepmir Ballón's own goal in the first half- they found the victory in the end thanks to a brace from Hernán Barcos.
One of the players who played the full 90 minutes was Ricardo Lagos, crucial on the left wing and who helped prevent more goals against Alianza Lima. Regarding the match, the full-back stated that it was a very tight game that put the defense line in trouble on more than one occasion. Despite that, the white and blue team came away with the victory at the Mansiche stadium.
“The match was complicated for us, but we never lost sight of the fact that we had to win. In these last few matches, we have to get three points and fortunately we had the necessary calmness to stay composed and we believed that we could score,” he said in a press conference.
He also emphasized that the team's good performance allowed them to achieve a favorable result despite the adversities. “I have no doubt that the team's hierarchy turned this match around,” he commented. And indeed, despite having a goal against in the second half, they reached a 2-1 lead thanks to Hernán Barcos' goals.
However, he reiterated that with only a few matches remaining in the tournament, they cannot afford to make mistakes. “We are in the final stretch of the tournament and we have to win whether we're playing at home or away. Mannucci is also playing for something and they are a good team, which made everything more complicated. The important thing is that we maintained the mindset to win at all times,” he said.
