Universitario has won almost all of their recent finals in Liga 1
The crema team has not been very frequent in national title finals in the 21st century, but out of the last five in which they competed for the local championship, they have won the trophy in four. Additionally, two of these four were against Alianza Lima, specifically in 1999 and 2009.
However, Universitario lost the only final out of the last five, in their last attempt to win the Primera Division, in the distant 2020 against Sporting Cristal, with a global score of 3-2. This match was played without an audience due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

Universitario and Alianza Lima already know the dates for the Liga 1 2023 final. The first leg will be played at Estadio Monumental on Saturday, November 4th, while the second leg will be on Wednesday, November 8th at Matute. Both matches will start at 20:00 hours.
