New coach change coming as the 2023 season comes to an end, as it was known that Gerardo Ameli will no longer be in charge of Cienciano's first team, due to the team's poor results and the defeat against FBC Melgar in Cusco.
This was reported by Radio Ovación, who also stated that the first candidate to take charge of the Cusco team would be Óscar Ibáñez, former goalkeeper coach of Ricardo Gareca's coaching staff.
In addition, the media mentioned that the arrival of the remembered goalkeeper would be for two years, that is, for the remainder of the 2023 season and the entire 2024.
"The first alternative to replace him is Óscar Ibáñez, who as a player was champion of the Copa Sudamericana and the Recopa Sudamericana with the Cusco team in 2003 and 2004 respectively. In case they reach an agreement, the former goalkeeper will sign for the remainder of the season and for the following year," they indicated.
Óscar Ibáñez wouldn't be the only alternative
Anyway, Óscar Ibáñez wouldn't be the only alternative that Cienciano's management would have to replace Gerardo Ameli, since they have also thought about hiring Franco Navarro. However, the strategist could only arrive for the 2024 season and the one who would lead the team would be Alessandro Morán on an interim basis.
