Carlos Zambrano, defense of Alianza Lima, indicated that the Peruvian national team aims to qualify directly for the 2026 World Cup and not to go to the playoffs, as happened in the last two qualifiers.

After training with his team in Lurin, the 'Lion' hinted that it could be considered a failure if the national team doesn't secure a direct ticket to the next World Cup because the chances of qualifying have increased with an additional spot for South America.
"It is understood that it would be that (a failure not to qualify), but it's not easy, we play against the best national teams, but, even so, we have an additional spot, I think in the last two qualifiers we have reached the playoffs, in this one we are not aiming for the playoffs, we aim to qualify directly, we know that it's the last qualifier for many teammates, including myself, so we have to give our all for that," expressed Zambrano.

"It's about qualifying directly, it's what we all yearn for and dream of, we have to work hard, most national teams are making a lot of changes, Paraguay and Ecuador already have many young players there, and unfortunately we are gradually looking for replacements," he added.
Furthermore, he agreed with the coach of the Peruvian national team, Juan Reynoso, that the maximum points should be obtained in each double match of the qualifiers, and he even warned that losing at home is forbidden, be it against Brazil or Argentina.
