Eliminatorias Sudamericanas towards the 2026 World Cup

The Peruvian national team anticipated its rivals and announced this Friday the list of players called up for the local tournament, from which some names will be chosen for the final squad that will play against Paraguay and Brazil.

As soon as the 28 players called up were known, Juan Reynoso responded to the media's questions, where he discussed various topics. He even dared to say what he expects to achieve in terms of points after this first double date, surprising everyone by stating that he aims to achieve at least 3 out of the 6 points at stake.

"That's a rhetorical question. Our intention is to always be at 50% production even in the worst scenario. I think that by having that, we will be in a calm and optimistic zone," said the national team coach in a press conference.

In the same line, Reynoso mentioned that by getting 25 points like in previous processes, they can secure the fifth place. However, they will seek to obtain more points than that. "The Qualifiers, if we look at previous numbers, 25 points like it has happened to Peru guarantees you the fifth place and sometimes it is not even 50% of the total points. The intention is that as something basic, but we are going to try to fight higher because we are ambitious," he added.
