The César Vallejo University faced ADT, for matchday 10 of the Clausura Tournament of the Liga 1 Betsson. However, the match is not over yet, since the Trujillo institution -through a statement- reported that they will request the VAR audios and that the referee Augusto Menéndez be stripped of his FIFA category. The reason? The additional minutes that were given in the match played at Mansiche stadium: the referee added six minutes and the match extended until the 99th minute (in the last breath, Hernán Rengifo scored the 1-1 for the Tarma team). In that context, Henry Gambetta,Head of the Arbitration Department, spoke about the controversy.
"The rules of the game establish the reasons why the referee must add lost playing time, and within that is also what corresponds to VAR checks. Within the six minutes that the referee initially granted, there were two minutes that were not played because there was a VAR check and a substitution by the home team, and those two minutes have to be played anyway. The referee acted in accordance with the regulations, adding those two minutes lost within the six minutes he had initially given," said Gambetta on Radio Ovación.
The Head of the Arbitration Department, in turn, referred to the punishment that Augusto Menéndez had already received (after the clash between Alianza Atlético and Universitario de Deportes, in the Apertura). "A punishment doesn't mean that we send a referee to the Second Division, the Women's League, or the youth categories. Mr. Menéndez served his suspension, he lost important things internationally, it was a quite severe punishment, in line with the error but whenever a referee has to return, we must make him return gradually," he said.
Regarding Sebastián Abreu's reaction -the coach of the 'Poetas' was sent off and then hit the VAR screen-, Henry Gambetta explained that "that's not my responsibility, I must criticize the coach's action, but the Disciplinary Committee has to evaluate and determine if there is a punishment. It's a reaction out of frustration, but it is by no means justified."

Last Sunday, Sporting Cristal defeated Deportivo Municipal and consolidated themselves at the top of the Clausura in the Liga 1 Betsson: Tiago Nunes' team now has 24 points in the tournament. However, they suffered more than expected to secure the three points, as they won with a goal from Yoshimar Yotún, from the penalty spot, in the final moments. Despite this, the captain of the Celestial team not only attracted attention for his goal, but also for a strong tackle on Álvaro Ampuero.
"There's not much to interpret because there is a clear mistake from the refereeing team. We, as the arbitration department, have released a video explaining what should have been done. Unfortunately, the referees on the field and in the booth did not do the job they were supposed to do, and that will have consequences for them," Gambetta expressed.
