The absence of the Peruvian national team in Qatar 2022 still hurts for the fans of the bicolor and also for Óscar Ruggeri, world champion in Mexico 86 with Argentina, who recently recalled the reaction of his friend Ricardo Gareca, former coach of the national team, after the penalty shootout defeat against Australia in the World Cup play-off.
The former defender appeared on the Al Ángulo show on Movistar Deportes, delving into various topics. And he didn't hide his emotion when reliving how 'El Tigre' took the elimination.
"I remember I called him (Ricardo Gareca) and he was crying. When they remind me, it moves me because he had a great sense of belonging here," said Ruggeri.
"Then I saw him when I came and we went out to eat together at a restaurant. When people saw him enter, they stood up and applauded him. How beautiful..." added the memorable center-back, who is in Lima accompanying Gareca for personal reasons.
