Fonavi 2023: more than 84 thousand Fonavi beneficiaries would receive their contributions.

The ad hoc Commission approved the regulation that begins the refunding of contributions to the National Housing Fund (FONAVI). After reaching an agreement on August 3rd, the responsible group sent the document to the Executive Power to be signed and published in the official newspaper El Peruano, as they cannot make any modifications.

In the following weeks, we must mention that the FONAVI commission in charge will have to agree on a payment plan with the list of beneficiaries who contributed to FONAVI. In that sense, we will present more details about the group that will benefit and what will happen to other former contributors.

Member of the ad hoc Commission, Jorge Milla, mentioned that the refund of the money to 84 thousand former FONAVI contributors is an important step, taking into account that there is a group of 1 million 200,000 people who have been identified but the amount they contributed when they were workers could not be determined.

"Around 84 thousand are currently credited with monetary contributions. They would be the first to have their FONAVI contributions refunded," Milla told the newspaper La República. However, the approved regulation mentions that "it will only be feasible for a minority of FONAVI members (around 7%), whose employers have been large companies."

The next group of 1 million 110,000 identified FONAVI contributors will not be able to receive their contributions for the moment, but efforts are being made to establish criteria that will be used for those former contributors whose monetary contributions could not be credited, but the periods they paid for could be confirmed.

"We have agreed to refund the worker's contributions applying the legal interest, unfortunately, this will not be possible for everyone because there is a difficulty in identifying the monetary contributions. So, we are working on a legislative proposal that we will submit to Congress," he added.
