After last April 18 Cienciano announced that they had opened a disciplinary process against Paolo Hurtado, due to some images broadcasted on an entertainment program that put the professionalism of the footballer in question, this Friday, May 26, the outcome of this matter was revealed. Through a video posted on his Instagram account, the midfielder announced that he will continue in the Cusco institution.
The 32-year-old player has not defended the colors of the 'Papá de América' since April 14, the day they lost 1-0 to Melgar and he was sent off. According to his words in that audiovisual material he uploaded to the aforementioned social network, he reached an agreement with Sergio Ludeña, the club's president, to continue within the squad and respect his contractual ties.
“Recently I had a meeting with the president of my club, Cienciano del Cusco, and I thank him for the opportunity to continue. To the fans, I apologize for everything that has happened and I promise to give 100% and give everything for this shirt”, he said in a short video.
Having received a new opportunity from Cienciano, Paolo Hurtado will have to focus on earning a spot in the starting eleven now led by Gerardo Ameli, who came to occupy the position of the dismissed Leonel Álvarez. It is worth adding that his contract ends at the end of 2023.
While the club itself has not issued a statement on the matter so far, it will surely do so in the coming days, just as it did when the disciplinary process was opened. Let's remember that Jean Deza and Mathías Carpio's cases are completely different, as these players did finish their contract with the Cusco team.
Paolo Hurtado's numbers this season
Paolo Hurtado arrived at Cienciano as a free agent after terminating his contract with Alianza Lima, where he only played 7 games throughout 2023, all coming off the bench. In the imperial team, he has played 5 games to date, accumulating 253 minutes.
