Fluminense defeats Sporting Cristal 3-1 in the first match of Group D of the 2023 Copa Libertadores, held at Estadio Nacional. The goals for 'Flu' were scored by Germán Cano at 35 and 59 minutes and Vitor Mendes at 81, with Joao Grimaldo scoring for Sporting Cristal at 18. Fluminense now leads the group with 3 points, followed by The Strongest with the same points but a lower goal difference. Celestes and River Plate have yet to score in the tournament. In the next match, Fluminense will host The Strongest on April 18 in Rio de Janeiro, and the following day Cristal will visit River Plate in Buenos Aires.
