Alex Valera on the opportunity to play against Garcilaso: "I want to contribute to the team"

The last memory of Alex Valera at the Inca Garcilaso de la Vega stadium is very good, as he scored the goal that gave Universitario de Deportes a 1-2 victory over Binacional. This goal was a couple of weeks ago and now that he is back in the 'crema' squad after his call-up to the Peruvian National Team, the forward hopes to repeat that scene when they face Deportivo Garcilaso this Friday, March 31st (7:30 p.m.).

Although it is not yet certain that he will start as a starter, especially because of the great moment Emanuel Herrera is going through, Valera hopes to get minutes in Cusco. "It's an important match against Deportivo Garcilaso, if they give me minutes I want to do my best and help the team," he said in an interview with the media at Jorge Chavez Airport.

On the other hand, he was also asked about Universitario's group in the Copa Sudamericana, where they will face Independiente de Santa Fe, Goiás, and Gimnasia y Esgrima La Plata. "Gimnasia is coming, I still have one more match suspension, then I am available for the other matches. It's a group that we can play against anyone," he added.

The 'U' players will need to take care of themselves to be in good physical condition and be able to compete in two tournaments simultaneously. Valera knows this perfectly well and believes they are prepared for the challenge. "We have a team to play in both tournaments, the team needs to be well prepared because we will need everyone. This series of matches will help us a lot to get into rhythm," he emphasized.

Fossati prepares his board

They say that you shouldn't change a winning team. For this reason, Jorge Fossati would only try one change in the starting eleven against Deportivo Garcilaso: the inclusion of José Carvallo instead of Diego Romero. After his time with the Peruvian National Team, the goalkeeper and captain of Universitario will reclaim his place.

The rest of the team would be the same as the one that defeated Cienciano at the Monumental stadium. Thus, the 'Flaco' would lineup the following formation: José Carvallo; Aldo Corzo, Williams Riveros, Matías Di Benedetto; Hugo Ancajima, Rodrigo Ureña, Martín Pérez Guedes and Nelson Cabanillas; Piero Quispe; Emanuel Herrera and Luis Urruti.

On the other hand, unlike Carvallo and Valera –who were with the 'Blanquirroja'–, Andy Polo did not travel to Cusco with the University delegation due to an injury he suffered in the last match against Morocco. This was announced by Fossati himself before heading to the imperial city.
