When Luis Urruti scored 3-1 for Universitario de Deportes against ADT, Jorge Fossati's celebration perfectly described the feeling of the 'cremas' fans: a total relief. Even though they didn't offer much resistance in the end, the tarmeños caused a lot of problems, especially in the first half. 'Tito', as has become a habit since the start of the season, raised his hand –twice, with a double in his pocket– to take them out of trouble and create a party in Ate.
The 30-year-old forward didn't start the Torneo Apertura as a starter –according to Carlos Compagnucci, due to physical problems–, but that was never an obstacle for him to keep showing that he deserved to be a starter for the 'U'. He has that precious asset that every attacker needs and the student team is taking advantage of it: the goal.
“Happy, what's better than asking life for a victory. A perfect night, especially when the family is in the stands. With all these beautiful people, who fill the stadium for every game. We haven't won, we have a winning mentality, and now we have another final on Friday against Cienciano”, said the Uruguayan naturalized Peruvian in an interview with GOLPERU.
When asked about his substitution at the beginning of the year, Urruti made it clear that he was always ready to play a full match, implying that his place on the bench had more to do with a decision from the previous coaching staff than with his recovery process to be 100%. Now with Fossati as coach, he has found that support he always needed to shine on the field.
“I was ready for ninety minutes. Afterwards, it's up to the coaches if they want to put you for sixty, seventy, or eighty minutes. I'm physically well, I want to thank the 'profe' who knows me and is taking care of me to avoid injuries”, added the player born in Conchillas, Uruguay.
Finally, now that Universitario has accumulated 12 points in the standings and is in second place –only behind Deportivo Garcilaso, with 13–, the forward is cautious despite the good moment they are experiencing. He prefers to think step by step and go game by game, with humility “U' always has to be there, it's their duty, to fight for the title every year. I'm happy to be on top, we haven't won anything, we have to go game by game because they are all finals”, he pointed out.
What's next for Universitario in Liga 1?
After this victory against ADT in the 9th round of the Torneo Apertura, Universitario de Deportes will have another match next week when they host Cienciano at the Monumental stadium, as part of the rescheduling of the first round. The match is scheduled for Friday, March 24 at 8:30 p.m. and will be broadcast exclusively on GOLPERU.
The last memory of the 'U' against the 'Papá de América' was a 2-0 victory, which qualified them for the group stage of the Copa Sudamericana. That night, also at the 'Monu', the 'cremas' won with goals from Piero Quispe and Emanuel Herrera. Remember that for this match, the 'U' will not be able to count on three of its players - Alex Valera, Andy Polo, and José Carvallo -, who are called up for the Peruvian National Team.
