José Luis Chilavert: "Peruvian clubs have to confront Agustín Lozano, expel him and send him to prison."

The issue of TV rights in Peruvian football has made headlines around the world (as a result, there were even six walkovers at the start of the local tournament; by Alianza Lima, Cienciano, Melgar, Cusco FC, Binacional, and Deportivo Municipal). Amidst this difficult situation in the Liga 1, José Luis Chilavert criticized the president of the Peruvian Football Federation (FPF), Agustín Lozano. The former Paraguayan goalkeeper criticized the San Luis head for following CONMEBOL's line on this matter.

"They have to unite because the other clubs are not protected by anyone, by a person accused of being a criminal, for ticket scalping, he should be in jail. That's why I say, the presidents of Peruvian clubs have to have b***s to confront Agustín Lozano, expel him and send him to jail; if they don't, unfortunately, they will be immersed in the corruption that exists in South America," stated the former goalkeeper in an interview with 'Dominio Sport'.

José Luis Chilavert also called on the Liga 1 clubs to join the fight against the FPF, indicating that it does not deserve to have a greater percentage of benefit in relation to the broadcasting rights compared to the interested teams.

"All the presidents of the clubs in Peru must fight together so they don't lose that power. Each club owns its own interests and it can't be that the Federation owns the television rights. There are many things to change. The dirt that exists within CONMEBOL is terrible. I think it's perfect that they don't participate and the others should join together to have a more transparent football", he added.

Agustín Lozano investigated by the Prosecutor's Office

The National Prosecutor's Office, within an investigation, states that Agustín Lozano, in his capacity as president of the FPF, would be approving, illicitly, the payment of S/. 250,000.00 soles to three clubs - Carlos Stein, Deportivo Llacuabamba, and Atlético Grau - as well as all those belonging to Liga 2. All these actions committed by the leader of the Videna would be taking place without the proper audit and he would be "providing data that do not conform to reality during the years 2019, 2020, 2021, in order to hide said availability."

In order for this investigation to proceed properly, the Prosecutor's Office has requested the appointment of an accounting expert to clarify the accounts of the FPF. They have also requested all the corresponding information on bank statements and transfers made between 2018 and 2022.
