Guests in the spotlight: Oblitas confirmed new measures by the FPF to prevent cases like the trip to Qatar [VIDEO]

Miercoles 15 de Febrero del 2023

The general director of football of the FPF confessed that they are working on an internal regulation in the Peruvian National Team, so that the case of the guests on the trip to Qatar for the playoffs does not happen again.

Lesson learned. The Peruvian National Team came under fire after losing to Australia in the qualifying match for the 2022 Qatar World Cup. One of the most criticized aspects was the long list of guests - by the team - who traveled to the Asian country. After that, Juan Carlos Oblitas made it known that measures are being taken to prevent this from happening again in the future.

"It got out of hand. We shouldn't point fingers, but when these types of situations occur, we have a responsibility to take. I can say that we are establishing an internal regulation for the Peruvian National Team and for the players with the intention of preventing what happened from repeating,", stated the national manager in a conversation with journalist Carlos Univazo.

Although Juan Carlos Oblitas recognized an error in the logistics for the match between the Peruvian National Team and Australia, he didn't ignore the reality and confessed that the team didn't give their all on the field in order to secure the last spot in the previous World Cup.

"I don't remember if there were many in the same hotel, but I think it's part of the strategy. Personally, I feel that the central part of my criticism and analysis is that we played one of the worst matches in Ricardo Gareca's era when we should have played the best in history", he added.

On the other hand, Juan Carlos Oblitas revealed that he lost contact with Ricardo Gareca after the 'Tigre' left the Peruvian National Team, a continuity that couldn't be confirmed due to the significant differences between the coach and the president of the FPF, Agustín Lozano.

"Ricardo Gareca has already moved on. We got so used to his personality that we feel he will always be associated with the Peruvian National Team, but that's not the case because he's already focusing on other things. I value, above all, what he gave us and we must maintain that, without a doubt,", he concluded.
