La Peruvian national team has had a bad start in the South American U-20 Championship in Colombia 2023. The team led by Jaime Serna lost their first two matches (3-0 against Brazil and 2-1 against Colombia) and most of the players of the national team have shown a poor individual level. One of them is the right-back Kluiverth Aguilar, who was supposed to be one of the stars of the Peruvian team in this youth tournament because he is the only one playing for a European club.
Therefore, in this article we will tell you the main details of the defender's career, his current situation in Belgium's Lommel SK, and his numbers in Peru's youth category.
Kluiverth Aguilar and his transfer to City Group
In 2019, Kluiverth Aguilar stood out with the Peruvian national team in the South American U-17 Championship held in our country. The right-back stood out for his great physical power.
Therefore, he caught the attention of the City Football Group, the company that owns Manchester City in England. The defender was sold by Alianza Lima to this conglomerate for a sum of 2.5 million euros.
However, he stayed with the Peruvian team until the 2021 season. In total, playing for the club, he played 35 matches, scored two goals, and provided one assist.
Kluiverth Aguilar and his current situation in European football
After leaving Alianza Lima, the City Football Group decided to send Kluiverth Aguilar to Lommel SK in the Second Division of Belgium.
Since joining this squad, the right-back has had problems consolidating a starting position and gaining continuity. The defender has only played 175 minutes in five official matches, in which he has not scored any goals or provided any assists.
Kluiverth Aguilar in the Peruvian U-20 national team
Since the beginning of the process, Kluiverth Aguilar has been the starting right-back for the Peruvian U-20 national team. The young player has played eight friendly matches with the national team.
In the first match of the 2023 U-20 South American Championship, he started as a starter against Brazil. However, he made a mistake in the first goal conceded by the national team and showed a poor level.
Therefore, for the next match against Colombia, coach Jaime Serna decided to put him on the bench. In the second half, he had to come on due to the injury of his teammate Nicolás Amasifuén, but in this match, the defender did not have a good performance either.
Based on what he has played so far in the youth tournament, Aguilar has not evolved physically and has not been seen pushing forward as he did before. Additionally, the lack of continuity in Belgium has made him lose confidence with the ball.
