This Wednesday, December 7, the Congress of the Republic approved the presidential vacancy of Pedro Castillo with 101 votes in favor. In response to this situation, the vice president, Dina Boluarte, went to parliament to be sworn in as the new head of state.
The president of parliament, José Williams Zapata, was in charge of administering the oath to the former member of Peru Libre. In this way, Article 115 of the Constitution is being complied with, which refers to the regime of presidential succession.

Dina Boluarte was born on May 31, 1963 in Chalhuanca, Apurímac. The president graduated as a lawyer from the San Martín de Porres University and pursued postgraduate studies at that institution.
The first female leader of Peru worked as a lawyer and head of offices at the National Registry of Identification and Civil Status.
During the government of Pedro Castillo, she was in charge of the Ministry of Development and Social Inclusion (Midis). However, on November 25, 2022, she resigned from this position. Additionally, she resigned from the Peru Libre party.
