October 2nd Elections in Puente Piedra District

Last October 2nd, the Municipal and Regional Elections 2022 were held, with Rennán Espinoza (Somos Perú) being the winner in the Puente Piedra district with 30% of the votes. However, on Thursday night, the Special Electoral Jury in Lima Norte 1 declared the nullity of the elections. Why? All the details in the note.

JEE declared the nullity of the elections in the Lince district.

The request was made by the legal representative of Renovación Popular, Sixto Pérez Coa, who highlighted serious irregularities in the elections in the Lima Norte district. The submitted document also reported "the vulnerability of electoral regulations, as well as fundamental constitutional rights".

Various reasons were presented to declare the nullity of the votes in Puente Piedra. For example, the ballot contained the full name of the candidate, Rennán Espinoza. It is worth noting that the candidate's son and current mayor of the district has the same name as a former congressman.

On the other hand, an ONPE worker was intervened and taken to the Zapallal police station after being arrested on the street with the list of voters.

Milton Jiménez, former mayor of the district and candidate for Renovación Popular, came in second place in the elections. However, it is reported that his name was not considered on the ballot, despite the protective measure granted by the Judiciary in his favor.

In light of this situation, Puente Piedra becomes the second district in the capital, after Lince, to have a judicial dispute. The National Jury of Elections (JNE) will be in charge of deciding the future of these municipalities.
