Gregorio Pérez is one of those who has an authoritative voice to speak about the current Universitario team, just days before the classic against Alianza Lima. While the coach recognizes the favoritism of the white and blue team, he trusts that his former players can get an important result at the Alejandro Villanueva stadium.

"I really wanted to coach in Peru for many years. The classics have their own party and history. The voice of the fans is motivating. I think that Universitario has a team that can get a good result, without detracting from what Alianza Lima has achieved so far," said the Uruguayan coach.

Gregorio Pérez still remembers the last classic when Alianza Lima beat Universitario 4-1 at the Monumental stadium, so he considers it a perfect opportunity for the students to shake off that memory and earn three valuable points at Matute.

"The classics aren't just played, they are won. From a distance, I keep up with Peruvian football, but this type of matches are special. In the previous game, 'U' lost by a wide margin and now they have the chance to reverse that situation," added the former coach of the merengue team.

On the other hand, Gregorio Pérez lamented the current situation of Universitario in the Liga 1, which places them outside the international tournament zone and with very few options to fight for the national title this season.

"There is a reality and that is that it is not a good year for 'U'. Unexpected situations have arisen and the results have not come. A big team has to be fighting for the tournament, that's what fans expect. Things haven't worked out, but they're achieving other things. I think the club is getting organized and there is a mood for a serious leadership," he concluded.
