It is not very common, but there have been cases where a football player born in a certain country must play at least one match against the national team of that nation. In Peru, something similar happened with a player born in the country who had to take the field to face the Blanquirroja.

Most of these cases occur when a football player acquires a nationality different from the country where he was born. Such is the case of Kevin Prince Boateng who was born in Germany but decided to play for the national team of his parents' country, even facing his brother Jerome in a World Cup.
However, what happened with this player is different since we are not talking about a Peruvian who has acquired another country's nationality. Until a little over 20 years ago, it was common to see national teams playing friendly matches against clubs and these teams could have Peruvian players.
An example is the match that the Peruvian national team played in its famous 1981 tour against Seresien, a second division team from Belgium where Percy Rojas and Juan Carlos Oblitas played, which ended in a 2-1 defeat for Peru. But this is not the match we are referring to, since Rojas and Oblitas played for Peru.
Which football player played against Peru?
We are talking about Percy Olivares, the left back who was twice national champion with Sporting Cristal and who showcased his football in clubs in Colombia, Germany, Spain, Argentina, Brazil, Mexico, Greece, the United States, and Switzerland.
An international player since 1989, Percy Olivares experienced the peculiar situation of playing against the national team he had been defending since he was 21. In 1996, the 'Zancudo' was playing for Fluminense, a Brazilian team that came to play a friendly match at the Estadio Nacional.
Olivares had a great performance, but playing for Fluminense. Despite his team's defeat (Peru won 1-0), the 'Zancudo' shone in his position, keeping Jorge Soto 'dry'.
The now sports commentator extended his career until 2007, wearing the 'blanquirroja' jersey on 83 occasions and scoring one goal.
