Many fans, especially those of Alianza Lima, will remember Gino Guerrero, the player who delighted football fans with his skillful ball handling and speed on the wings. However, his actions overshadowed his talent, as he was accused of sexual assault. What happened to him?

The midfielder made his debut for the blanquiazul team in 2011 and was one of the standout players. Two years later, he made the big leap to Europe to play for Paços Ferreira. However, he struggled to adapt and returned to Peru to play for Juan Aurich. He played for several teams in the local league until 2017, when he had a successful campaign with UTC, which earned him a contract with Guaraní in the Paraguayan league.

However, his debut with Alborigen was delayed and he returned to Peruvian football the same year to play for FBC Melgar, where he became champion of the Clausura Tournament.

Accusation of sexual assault

The lawyer stated that forensic experts conducted medical and psychological tests on the victim and found injuries that confirmed the allegations, which meant Guerrero could face a 10-year prison sentence.

What did Gino Guerrero say about this?

The Peruvian footballer spoke about the case during the program Beto a Saber. "I didn't feel like crying, I'm a bit strong in that sense, but I have analyzed the situation. I think about my family, especially my mother because she is suffering more than me. I know this accusation could end my football career. Imagine if I spend five years in prison, I come out at 30 years old. What would I do then? It's impossible to go abroad," he began.
