The Government has promulgated the law that declares Saturday, August 6 as a national holiday in all public entities and institutions, in commemoration of the Battle of Junin.

According to Law 31530, published today in the Official Gazette El Peruano, Article 6 of Legislative Decree 713 is also modified, which consolidates the legislation on paid leaves for workers subject to the labor regime of private activity.

The regulation recalls that, in addition to August 6, there are other holidays, including the upcoming ones for Patriotic Holidays.

The law states that the ministries of Education, Culture, and Defense will schedule official commemorative activities for the Battle of Junin and its historical significance, to be held in public and private educational institutions and in all public sector entities.

This rule, approved by the Congress of the Republic, is endorsed by President Pedro Castillo and the head of the Council of Ministers, Anibal Torres.

WHAT OTHER HOLIDAYS ARE THERE FOR THE REST OF THE YEAR?

The following are:

  • Patriotic Holidays (July 28 and 29)
  • Santa Rosa de Lima (August 30)

WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN A HOLIDAY AND A NON-WORKING DAY?

HOLIDAY

The holiday is a festive day in which both public and private sector workers can stop working. The same goes for students, who do not go to their classes.

In the event that an employee works on a holiday, they will receive additional compensation, which is normally tripled, even if it is a Sunday.

NON-WORKING DAY

The non-working day is decreed by the Government in power. In this case, the employer will decide whether their workers work or not. If an employee works normally, this does not mean that they will receive extra payment, as they will only receive the same salary without increases.

For those who rest, they must compensate for those hours with overtime, work on Saturdays, or consider them as part of their vacation.
