Gareca's lawyer explained why an agreement was not reached: "It is not an economic issue."

Lawyer of Ricardo Gareca, Mario Cupelli, gave some details about how the meeting between the members of the Peruvian Football Federation (FPF) and the coach's representation took place. "There was a meeting on the 12th that was scheduled in advance. People assigned by President Lozano, Milton Gareca and myself attended," began the attorney.

Next, Cupelli went deeper. "It is not an economic issue, there were contractual modifications to previous contracts that were being repeated, modification or elimination of some clauses. So, this accumulation did not provide the conditions to continue with the contract," he added at the press conference.

Later, Gareca's lawyer referred to the version that circulated regarding a 40% reduction in the salary of the former coach of the national team. "This lack of confidentiality and the 40% reduction were evidenced prior to that meeting because a certain sector of the press had already mentioned the 40% reduction. One could investigate if that confidentiality was violated, but at the request of the coaching staff, we will not do it," he said.

To conclude, Cupelli reiterated the reason why the parties involved could not reach a new agreement to renew the strategist's contract with the Peruvian national team. "An agreement was not reached because the contractual conditions that were intended to be modified were not met, and for that reason, an agreement was not reached," he concluded.

"To the players. The order, beyond what one can give, is given by the football players. From those who had a single call-up to those who were there from the very beginning. They were vital, they were key. I thank them immensely, not only for that, but for the respect they had for us. For their great professionalism and willingness. I am eternally grateful to the Peruvian players. We believed in the Peruvian player and we are even more convinced now that we are leaving. We can turn that phrase into something real, not something fictional. What we said was achieved, with conviction and unwavering faith in the Peruvian player," he added.
