After retiring, he became a coach for the youth teams of Parma in Italy. In 2015, he had his first experience as a head coach in Módena of the Serie B in said country.
In 2019, he was hired by Banfield in Argentina, where he didn't do very well. Later, he coached Defensa y Justicia, a club with which he won the 2020 Copa Sudamericana.
After this successful campaign, he was hired by Sao Paulo in Brazil in 2021. With this team, the coach had a great start and became champion of the Campeonato Paulista. However, he did not achieve good results in the Brasileirao and was dismissed in October of that year.
