It's over. The decision of Ricardo Gareca to not continue leading the Peruvian National Team came as a shock.
The coach was very loved and respected among the leaders and coaching staff, which is why the farewell messages were not long in coming.
The manager of the Peruvian national team, Antonio García Pye, published a message on his social media, thanking the 'Tigre' for the joys he brought.
"Thank you, professor... for everything," reads the message that appears next to a photograph of Ricardo Gareca, Juan Carlos Oblitas, and García Pye.
Cedric Oropesa, video analyst for the team, also used his social media.
"Just words of gratitude for everything I saw you do for PERU and for what you did for me, just thanks for everything. Nobody can take away what we accomplished," he posted.
THE GARECA ERA
Ricardo Gareca made the Peruvian national team return to a World Cup after 36 years.
In addition to that, he led Peru to a Copa America final after 44 years, when they faced Brazil in 2019.
