The goalkeeper of the Bolivian national team criticized the performance of the Australian goalkeeper during the penalty shootout against Peru in the Qatar playoff.

Peru's defeat against Australia in the penalty shootout sparked a series of reactions among Peruvians as well as in other South American countries.

Although there was no player who stood out throughout the match, there was one who stole all the attention in the penalty shootout. We're talking about Australian goalkeeper Andrew Redmayne, who received criticism from several football-related figures.

Peruvian goalkeeper Carlos Lampe was one of them, who had harsh words for his Oceanian counterpart, who performed a series of stunts when he stood between the posts for the penalty kicks.

"The Australian goalkeeper's actions are unacceptable," declared the Argentinean football goalkeeper to TNT Sports.

Liberman calls Australia's goalkeeper a "clown"

Argentine journalist Martín Liberman was also another critic of the style used by the goalkeeper to try to distract the players from the Peruvian team, and he called him a "clown".

"A goalkeeper who was sort of a clown, a goalkeeper who used tricks or ploys to distract the opponent. A goalkeeper who danced continuously on the goal line," he said on his YouTube channel.

Australian goalkeeper almost quit football

In an interview he gave to The Sydney Morning Herald in 2021, the 33-year-old goalkeeper confessed that he was close to quitting professional football because he didn't feel confident in himself.

"I still loved working hard and enjoyed training. But I think there was a bit of self-doubt, I just didn't think I was good enough to be honest. I used to be plagued with doubts about myself," said Andrew Redmayne.

When will the Peruvian national team play again?

After failing to qualify for the World Cup, the Peruvian national team must turn the page and think about the next South American qualifiers. However, prior to these matches, the team will play some friendly matches during the FIFA dates. One of the confirmed opponents is Mexico. Although the date and location of the match have not been determined, it will take place in September and it would be the next match for the team.
