Abysmal flight distance differences between Peru, Australia, and the UAE to reach Qatar

After finishing the Qatar 2022 Qualifiers, it was confirmed that the Peruvian National Team will have to face the World Cup playoff against the representative of the Asian continent. The opponent of the Peruvian team will come from the winner between Australia and the United Arab Emirates, who will have to go to the World Cup venue in June.

Given this scenario, one fact that has come to light is regarding the journey that the Peruvian National Team will have to Qatar. The flight hours can be exhausting for the national delegation, something totally different for Australia or the United Arab Emirates.

One of the countries that has no travel issues to Qatar is the United Arab Emirates, who takes only 59 minutes to reach the venue of the 2022 FIFA World Cup.

Australia, on the other hand, takes a long time to reach Qatar. Their flight takes approximately 15 hours and 30 minutes, something that would cause discomfort for the team from Oceania.

Peru, the representative country of CONMEBOL, will have a longer trip than the two mentioned above, as the flights to Qatar will take approximately 23 hours and 40 minutes.

Given this scenario, it is not ruled out that the Peruvian Football Federation (FPF) requests to FIFA that the playoff matches take place in a neutral zone for all the parties involved. It is estimated that one of the venues will be in Europe, which would be more equal for the three selections that are seeking a spot in Qatar 2022.

The playoff will take place on June 13 or 14, 2022, between the Peruvian National Team and the winner of the Australia vs United Arab Emirates match.

Prior to the playoff scheduled for June, the Peruvian National Team will play a series of friendly matches to arrive with intensity at the playoff. It is expected that in the coming weeks the name of the opponents can be confirmed. Meanwhile, the draw to determine the groups of the 2022 World Cup will take place on Friday.
