With only five rounds left to finish the Qatar 2022 qualifiers, the classification is getting intense, since there is only a two-point difference between the teams in third and seventh place, that is, nothing is defined. What does Peru need to secure a spot?
According to statistics, teams with more than 28 points secure their qualification, however, this rule is not exact and has sometimes varied. In Peru's case, the national team went to the playoffs with 26 points on their way to Russia 2018.
In the present and prior to matchday 14 of the qualifiers, the Peruvian National Team has 14 points and occupies the seventh position in the standings, waiting to play for 15 more points, of which they must ensure at least 11.
Among Peru's remaining matches, they have two at home against Ecuador and Paraguay (which they must win) and three away games against Venezuela, Colombia, and Uruguay. In these last matches, they must win at least one and secure points with draws.
However, Ricardo Gareca's team not only depends on themselves, as they will be expectant of what happens with their direct rivals, who could lose their advantage like Chile, Ecuador, Uruguay, and Colombia.
