Former Peru National Team player, Ramón Mifflin, lamented the passing of Pedro Pablo 'Perico' León, who died at the age of 76 after being admitted to a local clinic due to renal failure and pneumonia.
"It is sad news received on Mother's Day, the departure of a great character and a great friend," Mifflin said in an interview with the program "Fútbol como Cancha" from RPP Noticias.
Mifflin, who had 'Perico' as a teammate in the national team, affirmed that "for my taste, he is the best number nine I have seen" in the Peruvian National Team.
"(Perico) is among the best. There's 'Lolo' (Fernández), Valeriano (López), Percy (Rojas), and (Franco) Navarro. Now you have Paolo (Guerrero), there was also (Enrique) Casareto. There have been so many great number nines, but 'Perico' was something special, he was my teammate and I enjoyed it," he said.
Mifflin highlighted 'Perico' León's playing characteristics. "He was a center forward, a true number nine. He moved to the corners, he wasn't fast, he was like Coutinho from Santos de Pelé, playing between the two center backs. He was the best ball receiver I have seen," he concluded.
