'Aladino' has not been doing well sports-wise for several months now, and he could miss the start of the Qualifiers against Paraguay and Brazil due to his inactivity, according to Juan Carlos Oblitas, sports director of the Peruvian Football Federation (FPF).

"Since November when we played the last few matches, if you look at the number of inactive months, it is quite complicated for Ricardo Gareca to consider him. It's normal, it's many months. If there were friendlies in January or February, wow, you give him the opportunity," he said about Christian Cueva's current situation in an interview with GolPeru.

"I never tire of repeating what Christian Cueva means to the team, it gives me the impression that he doesn't realize that significance, what we all want and expect from him. Paradoxically, despite not having had much activity in his club, he performs really well. He's a typical player who raises his performance with the national team. What do I expect? That he finds a team and plays, wherever he goes, he plays, that he has a certain regularity," he added.

Juan Carlos Oblitas affirmed that Christian Cueva doesn't realize his value for the national team. "I'm convinced that he has a free spirit on the field that makes him play in a way that is different. The day he realizes the importance he has, things will change, and that should be accompanied by a football activity that he hasn't had for a long time," he commented.

"Ricardo Gareca is constantly in communication with him. Not to mention Néstor Bonillo. It depends on him, not on us. When you want to play, you have to put a lot into it, I mean the financial aspect, and that's what he should consider now," he pointed out.
