October 31st: the day celebrated with revelry in Peruvian sports.

Although some celebrate Halloween, an unbreakable bond connects creole culture and our greatest sporting values of yesterday, today, and forever beyond this date.

31st of October Celebrations in Peruvian Sports

Peruvian sports also celebrate the 31st of October, especially by the legends who, as it could not be otherwise, commemorate the Day of the Criolla Song by singing the lyrics that accompanied them in their greatest achievements.

During the golden ages, criolla music became another anthem and the main motivation in volleyball and, above all, football. But the Peruvian national team still has a criolla soul. What better example than what was seen in the Russia 2018 World Cup, when "Contigo Peru" resonated in all the stadiums in the land of the tsars.

Whether it's the great Cecilia Tait, Marilú Blanco, mother of football player Miguel Araujo, or San Martin midfielder Jesus Chávez, they all testify to the emotions that arise when listening to these traditional lyrics while wearing the national team jersey.

Even in the 70s, during Peru's qualification for the Mexico World Cup, "Peru Champion" became an anthem. It was common to see "Zambo" Cavero, Óscar Avilés, and Augusto Polo Campos in every Peruvian victory.

The criollismo and national sports come together through music to remember the memorable moments of the greatest athletes and inspire our young players to continue making history today.
