Christian Cueva's request was the real reason he was not called up to the Peruvian national team
During the program Fox Sports Radio Peru, journalist Mauricio Loret de Mola stated that the true reason why Christian Cueva was not called up to the Peruvian national team is because the player requested it.
"The only thing I've heard from colleagues is that it's due to poor performance, but that's not the reason. (Christian Cueva) was on the list of call-ups, he was asked because he is an important player," said Mauricio Loret de Mola on Fox Sports Radio Peru.
When Alan Diez asked Mauricio Loret de Mola if Christian Cueva requested not to be called up, he responded with a definitive "yes".
In addition, Eddie Fleischman talked about it and said: "It is clear that it is an emotional issue and it seems to me that Christian Cueva has taken too long to apply the brakes he needed because this was a sequential path and it was clear that something was not right, that he was not taking care of his professional condition. One would say, what's happening here? There is a person who is not reflecting. If he had applied the brakes months ago, he wouldn't have reached this point," he commented on the program.
Mauricio Loret de Mola himself stated the following: "Minutes before Gareca's press conference, Christian Cueva was talking with part of the coaching staff. Cueva himself, aware of his situation, requested Santos to suspend his contract for the time he was going to be in Peru because it was the fairest thing to do," the journalist concluded.
