After the defeat in Arequipa in the Alianza Lima vs. Melgar match, Diego Osella and his coaching staff were dismissed from the red and black club, according to a statement issued through social media. The first team will be under the command of the reserve team coach.
Diego Osella took over as head coach of Melgar for the second half of the year. In the Clausura, he had five wins, three draws, and three losses, the last one against the 'intimos'. His numbers were not to the liking of the Arequipa board, so tonight he left the position along with his coaching staff.
"Our institution has decided to end the employment relationship that united us with Head Coach Diego Osella and his coaching staff. We thank Mr. Osella for his human and professional qualities, as well as his contributions to our club," Melgar posted on their official Twitter account.

The 'Dominó' is currently in eighth place in the Clausura standings, but in 10th place in the overall standings, which could mean losing the opportunity to qualify for the Copa Sudamericana next year, thus breaking their streak of five consecutive qualifications for the Copa Libertadores.
There are four matches left in the tournament. Melgar's next opponents are Sport Boys, Sporting Cristal, César Vallejo, and they will close with Cantolao. The first one is fighting to get out of the relegation zone, so a life-or-death match is expected at the Miguel Grau stadium in Callao. As for the last opponents, their international tournament qualification could be at stake.
