The Lesson Paolo Guerrero Learned from Uruguay's Slap
The slap that 'La Celeste' gave to the Peruvian national team taught a lesson to Paolo Guerrero ahead of the qualifiers: "We have to kill Uruguay." The striker analyzed the draw obtained in Lima and hopes that his teammates and coaching staff realize that what lies ahead will be tougher than what they experienced at the Estadio Nacional.
"I'm leaving with frustration because it was a match in which we could have made it 2-0, and as the 'profe' said, we have to kill Uruguay. We should have scored the second goal, and that's where the consequences are," analyzed the 35-year-old attacker.
But within the frustration that the home draw represented, Paolo Guerrero confessed that for him, this result will leave many lessons in the national team.
"This result serves to correct mistakes and be aware that this won't work for us in the qualifiers, that the matches are much tighter."
And he added, "Sometimes, when you win, you stop doing certain things. So, we have to understand that there is a lot to correct."
However, he confirmed that they didn't listen to Ricardo Gareca, "When we scored the first goal, we lowered the intensity despite the 'profe' telling us to maintain it, and we didn't listen to him."
Finally, he expressed his happiness for the performance of players like Christofer, who is becoming established in the team, as well as new players like Costa or Ascues who have already been there. Zambrano is playing very well with Abram. I feel happy because we are reuniting."
