"Football is the best medicine", a phrase that perfectly describes the story of Yampol Zamora Espino. A 23-year-old young man from Ayacucho, who despite being given up on by science and medicine, clung to life through a single wish, to meet the entire team roster of his beloved Ayacucho FC.
Yampol was diagnosed some time ago with liver cancer and doctors had informed him that his case was not reversible. Despite this, he continued to fight this uneven battle against his illness day by day. Despite the pain of his disease, he found moments of clarity and joy in football when he turned on the television and watched the matches of the team led by Mario Viera.
His day-to-day life was only destined to have a quality of life for the last few months or years he had left in this world. He wanted these last moments to be spent enjoying what he loved and was passionate about. That's why two weeks ago he went to the Ayacucho FC training ground and was able to fulfill his last wish. He shared pleasant moments with his favorite players and for a while forgot about the disease that was afflicting him day by day. And as if that were not enough, he was invited to attend a match in the Liga 1 of the team. It took place on September 30th, where the Ayacucho team defeated Cesar Vallejo 1-0. That afternoon was his last match and his last goal celebration at the Estadio Ciudad de Cumaná. He left with the three points in his mind and heart.
Yesterday, after a tough battle against cancer, Yampol left this world. He closed his eyes and didn't open them again. Perhaps with the disappointment of not knowing how his team will fare at the end of the championship and not being able to shout the goals of Mauricio Montes in life anymore. However, from today on, Ayacucho FC will play with twelve players. Their most loyal fan will continue to support them in all the fields.
