Jorge Valdano wrote a column for the newspaper El País where he strongly criticized the Peruvian National Team's star player, Paolo Guerrero, and some other players of the Copa América because of their age. In this context, the Argentine journalist Juan Pablo Varsky came to the defense of Peru's number 9.

"Something serious is happening if in the Copa América we are rediscovering the old before getting excited about the young," wrote Jorge Valdano.
"I don't see it as serious, I see it as normal. In all sports, individual and team, longevity is common. Personal care, technology applied to recovery, nutrition and rest extend the athlete's lifespan. Age no longer retires. The good players endure," Juan Pablo Varsky responded on Twitter.
Later, the World Cup champion with Argentina stated in his column: "In the Chile-Peru match, the figure of Paolo Guerrero (35 years old) emerged, who in the midst of so much speed and friction seemed to tell us, with every ball he touched, how football is played. To be more graphic, he did it in slow motion. He managed to clarify what was confused and made those of us who were watching reconcile with the most beautiful aspect of football, which is nothing other than seeing pure talent in action."
"On the other hand, Brazil and Peru ended the matches with their fans shouting 'oleeeeee' with every touch, because the disorder of the opponents allowed them to have the ball with great comfort. Scoring goals comes before playing the game," Valdano concluded.
