Alianza Lima is not doing well in these first few months of the year. It was eliminated from the final of the Summer Tournament, has not been able to perform well at Matute, and left a very poor impression in the Copa Libertadores. On top of that, they suffered a 5-0 defeat against Boca Junior in La Bombonera, prior to their debut in the Apertura Tournament.

"Neither Renzo Rato nor Gustavo Zevallos have asked me for a minimum number of points in these first 6 games," responded Pablo Bengoechea, who is obliged to be a protagonist in the Apertura Tournament with the aim of achieving their aspirations: the national bicampeonato.
