Rafael Puente took his position as the coach of Querétaro in Mexico on Friday, with the long-term goal of reaching a club in Europe or the national team.

Puente replaces Luis Fernando Tena, who was dismissed on Sunday for failing to qualify for the playoffs to compete for the Clausura title.

"In the short term, my goal is to make this team brave, daring, and intense. In the medium term, I want to achieve results that allow the fans to feel identified and elevate us to the prestige we all pursue. In the long term, I want to move on to a team in Europe or the national team," Puente said after his presentation.

"To reach that, I have a long way to go, which indicates that I have the aspiration and dream of representing these colors for a long time," he added.

Querétaro will be the second club that Puente manages after his time with Lobos BUAP, the team he led to promotion in May 2017 and was dismissed in April.

The new coach of Querétaro signed a one-year contract with the option to extend it.

"I continue to live this dream that I hope never ends, and the only way for it to never end is by working constantly. We had the privilege of receiving the call from this institution, and we decided to accept the invitation because few projects in Mexican soccer have a defined path like Querétaro," Puente pointed out.
