Ricardo Gareca reiterated his confidence in having Paolo Guerrero playing in the 2018 World Cup with the Peruvian National Team. The coach of the team said that the striker deserves to be in the World Cup and that nothing has tarnished his career.
"I am very close to what is happening with Paolo Guerrero. There are many speculations, many opinions. I am guided by the official opinion of the president, the leaders, Juan Carlos Oblitas, who keep me informed. That's where I hold on the most," said the coach in an interview with the Argentine agency Telam.

"Paolo Guerrero is an important reference, one of the figures that Peru has. Historically, he is a player who has performed well in his national team. We hope for the best, especially for him as a person. He's a sensational guy. He has never presented us with any inconvenience," he added.
The captain of the Peruvian National Team serves his six-month suspension imposed by FIFA on May 3. On the same day, the striker has his hearing at the Court of Arbitration for Sport. His lawyers have requested the annulment of the punishment but the World Anti-Doping Agency appealed and asked for a two-year sanction.
"Paolo Guerrero got involved in this situation that has been a detriment, especially in terms of his continuity. I don't think it affects his image because he has a very well-regarded image worldwide, due to his career," commented Ricardo Gareca.
